Summary

Bühler Group, located in Johannesburg, South Africa, is seeking a dedicated Department Manager – Automation to become part of our team. This position will be responsible to lead, develop, and structure the Automation department to support the successful execution of customer projects, service projects, retrofit opportunities, digital solutions, and Automation-related Bühler Service Agreements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Automation department, including priorities, resource planning, workload balancing, competence development, and allocation of staff to projects, service assignments, retrofit activities, and customer support tasks.
  • Lead, stabilise, structure, and develop a high-performing Automation team with the required skills and competencies to support project execution, retrofit business growth, digital solutions, service agreements, and customer support.
  • Support the Head of Department – Project Execution in implementing strategies, structures, processes, and standards related to Automation within the Project Execution organisation.
  • Provide strategic technical support to Sales, Customer Service, and Project Execution teams for Retrofit, Digital, and Automation Bühler Service Agreement opportunities.
  • Support customer-facing activities by providing Automation expertise during quotation, concept development, technical clarification, site assessment, solution definition, and project handover phases.
  • Ensure that Automation scope, interfaces, division of work, technical risks, change control, milestones, and quality gates are clearly defined and managed throughout project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Appropriate experience and training in leadership and management techniques
  • English level CPE
  • Appropriate experience and training in general leadership and management technique
  • Project Management Training or certification
